Dispute surrounds Sozni shawls

There are various issues over which India and Pakistan have been into disagreements for a long time. Once again they are involved in a dispute and this time, for the famous Sozni shawls.
Pakistan is making all the efforts to combat Jammu and Kashmir's efforts to acquire Geographical Indicator Patent (GIP) for this particular embroidery craft item.
Pakistani merchants want Sozni shawls, which are made in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir to be included in the patent kashmiri Sozni.
Jammu and Kashmir's Craft Development Institute (CDI), has applied to Chennai based GIP, to get its three crafts products-Pashmina, Sozni and Kani shawls patented.
CDI has even come up with a list of seven items including lattice work, wood carving and namda and crewel, embroidery to get a temporary patent.
Kashmiri handicraft is famous world wide for its aesthetic sense. However, with fake machine products taking over the market, it is leaving region artisans in a gloomy state.
