Pakistan is still facing the crisis of high wheat prices which have accompanied a hike in the prices of jute bags as well.
Insufficient production of wheat, has compelled Trade Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), to import the grain, for meeting local requirements.
However, TCP will then have to pay more for the jute bags in order to preserve the wheat imported from other countries.
Manufacturers of jute bags have increased the prices to Rs58.90 for a bag of 100 kilogram, while the Punjab Food Department offers Rs57.02.
Although propylene could have been a viable alternative to avoid purchase of overrated jute bags, these would not be durable for long.
So far, jute manufacturers have provided the TCP with around 50,000 bag bales each of which contains 300 bags. However, manufacturers have refused to meet the demand of 78,770 jute bag bales of the region.
A total of only 8.5 lakh tons of wheat will be kept in jute bags provided by the manufacturers while the remaining 11 lakh tons will have to be packed in propylene bags.
