According to National Bureau of Statistics, in 2007 annual yarn output achieved 20 million tons, an increase of 14.7 percent year-on-year. Cloth production totalled 66 billion meters, growing by 10.3 percent, chemical fiber yield reached 23.9 million tons, showing a rise of 15.3 percent.
During this period, National cotton acreage amounted to 8385 Mu, with total cotton production registered 7.6 million tons, a boost of 1.3 percent.
Looking into the cotton production data, two points are worth mentioning; firstly, the volatility in domestic cotton production during 2007, was not greater than that in the previous year. Experts believe that in 2008 cotton acreage will continue to remain stable, if weather and planting environment would undergo no major changes.
Although textile industry is entering to an in-depth adjustment stage, the rapid growth of yarn and fabric production is not expected to slow down all of a sudden. Industry insiders concede that even if growth rates slip a little, a big decline in total cotton consumption is not expected.
