Tarun Gogoi, Chief Minister for the state of Assam presented a Rs2819 crore deficit budget for the fiscal year 2008-09.
Also playing his part as the Finance Minister, Mr Gogoi announced a number of sops and future projects to be under taken for the year ahead.
An important aspect of the announcement was the decision to introduce gender budgeting in the state with twelve departments, each having schemes with 100 percent earmarked for benefiting women.
Mr Gogoi declared reduction of VAT on jute cloth and other related products as well as a reduction of 12.5 percent to 4 percent on transformers.
This apart, the Chief Minister also stated the growth rate of Assam is expected to be 8.0 percent for the current year.
Mr Gogoi also talked about setting up of an IT park near Borjhar Airport.
