Asahi-Marubeni-PTT to set up ACN & MMA plants in Thailand

By using hydrogen cyanide byproduct from the AN plant as feedstock for MMA production with the acetone cyanohydrin (ACH) process, the new MMA plant in Thailand will achieve superior cost competitiveness as AKCC increases market share through expanded sales in the growing markets of Asia.

Groundbreaking: Summer 2008 Start-up: Late 2010 Sales channel: Sale in Asean by the JV, elsewhere by AKCC Annual sales forecast: ˜¥18 billion (incl. 160,000 tons/year ammonium sulfate)
Scale of investment Of a total project expense of some US$750 million, or approximately ¥80 billion, half will be raised through project finance. AKCC will make an investment of some ¥20 billion as part of the Asahi Kasei Group's strategic investment under Growth Action – 2010.
