Foreign trade of Zhejiang advances significantly in Q1

According to customs data of Hangzhou, in the first quarter of 2008, total foreign trade value of Zhejiang Province reached nearly US $46.2 billion, an increase of 25.5 percent from the same period last year, and 0.9 percentage points higher than average increase of the nation.

Exports fetched almost $32.85 billion of revenue, a hike of 25.5 percent and an increase of 4.1 percentage points compared to the average growth of China.

On the other hand, the region imported goods worth $13.36 billion, a boost of 25.4 percent, falling by 3.2 percentage points compared to the average increase for the nation.

According to Hangzhou Customs, in Q1 of 2008, export from China registered a growth of 21.4 percent and the imports augmented by 28.7 percent.

In the month of March, overseas trade value of Zhejiang amounted to $15.69 billion, of which exports generated revenue worth $10.77 billion and imports came up to $4.92 billion.

However, exports from Zhejiang have dropped by 3.4 percent and imports have decreased by 12.6 percent when compared to same period of last year.

At present, total import and export volume of Zhejiang Province ranks fourth in the country.
