Australian Wool Exchange has finally introduced categorization of wool as mulesed and non-mulesed.
This new system has brought in relief to the wool growers who can, starting from July, declare whether their wool is obtained from mulesing of sheep or otherwise. This classification will be introduced in the catalogue for all wool sales..
However, wool growers are skeptical about getting any benefit from this even if they assure that the wool comes from un-mulesed sheep.
Most of these growers are hoping that they would get a premium for offering wool from un-mulesed sheep because on a practical note, either the consumer or the Government would have to bear the cost of obtaining wool from methods other than mulesing.
