Textile production value undergoes change to offset Intl challenge

Stiff competition from China and other Asian countries like Vietnam, have impeded the quick development of Taiwan textile industry which is why the country has not made any commendable achievements in the past.

The situation had brought a huge pressure on Taiwan and to reverse this inconducive situation, it changed the proportion of the production value of clothes industry, the home decorations industry and the industrial textile industry from 8:1:1 into 6:2:2 by 2010. Additionally, the Government also called upon the enterprises to form the Taiwan Industrial Textile Association which is so far the biggest organization in the sector.

As a result, instead of 2010, the target was achieved in 2007 itself because of rapid decline in the production value of the clothes industry coupled with increase in the production value of the industrial textile. The Taiwan Industrial Textile Association also played an important role in bringing about this change.
