May '08
For a long time, banana stalks despite being popular in the production of a variety of clothes, had not been utilized to its fullest advantage. However, with recent developments and adoption of new technology, more and more enterprises are indulging in the manufacturing of banana fabric.

Recently, Jiangxi East Asian Banana Fibre Co Ltd successfully developed production technology for banana fibre and it has already reached the international advance level.

The company, together with the assistance of Donghua University, made a research for nearly three years for introducing this technology. Presently, several kinds of banana fibre and garments made from it, are being produced by Zhejiang Golden Eagle Co Ltd and other local enterprises.

Experts have observed that the various styles of fabric made from banana fibre are similar in appearance to the hemp fabric. However, a difference in performance is quite noticeable. Apparels made from banana fibre is said to be qualitatively better than hemp garments which is why a large number of domestic and foreign dealers have showed interest in trading these products.
