Import prices for fibre surge

During the first two months of the present fiscal, fibre importing price of Vietnam stood at US $1,670-$2,849 per ton, an increase of 13.31 percent compared to same period 2007, an official source of the MOIT said.
In February, the fibre price saw slight slump in comparison with previous month but a minimal growth can be observed compared to same period last year.
The average price quoted at Taiwan in February, stood at $1,648 per ton, down 4.5 percent against January but up 11.4 percent over same period 2007. The quotation from Thailand was $1,669 per ton, which was 1.1 percent short of January figure and 12.6 percent higher compared to corresponding period of previous year.
However, it is to be noted that the prices quoted by Chinese suppliers witnessed down trend, stood at $1,916 per ton, fell by 3.7 percent compared to January present year, and 12 percent from February 2007.
Local experts are of the opinion that, as the prices of raw material are rising in the world market, fibre price are expected to touch near about $1,600-2,900 per ton.
