State Government of West Bengal has proposed to set up a 100 acre Bengal Integrated Textile Park at Sankrail in Howrah on NH-6. Already about 75 acres have been acquired under the Special Project Vehicle (SPV) scheme for the purpose.

Central Government has also been sent with an application with detailed project report (DPR) together with a sanction letter from the State Government.

According to Chamber of Textile Trade and Industry (COTTI), the developers of the project are striving hard to come up with the project under Scheme for Integrated Textile Park (SITP) of the Union Ministry of Textiles. According to the formulated plan, over 150 units are proposed to get established in the park generating employment for about 10,000 people.

The project will require an investment of about Rs110 crore and will essentially engage the units in the production of a wide range of textile products starting from hosiery to readymade garments.

Moreover, COTTI is also coming up with a mega textile fair in West Bengal starting from May 7 to 9 whereby 63 textiles units across the country are expected to participate.

Besides, in its recently released textiles policy, the West Bengal Government set a target of setting up 20 integrated textile parks, three jute parks, 50 additional handloom clusters, one integrated silk processing and printing complex (SPPC) and an ultra-modern Integrated Textile Township in the state in the next five years using the public private partnership model.
