Further the Secretary General suggested, “The quality of jute required for geo-textiles is not very high. The existing jute plant of inferior variety is suitable as a raw material. As demand for jute increases, the price would also soar high leading to increased cultivation of jute which need not be of the best quality.
"In any case, there is a surplus stock, which is carried - forward every year, both in India and Bangladesh. This will be utilized for jute geo-textiles. Moreover there is decline in global demand for traditional products. This surplus is also available."
While clarifying about rise in cost Mr Sudripta stressed, “Bangladesh imports synthetics for road construction. The cost of import can offset the one time cost of investment in machinery. Moreover, cheaper proto- type machineries with adequate efficiency is available at zero duty import from India.”
