Spandex fiber output slows down in Apr

According to the latest bureau figures, domestic output of spandex fibers reached 14,845 tons in April 2008, 990 tons or 6.33 percent less from the previous month.

From January to April 2008, China's total production of spandex fibers amounted to 59,683 tons, representing a growth of 15.56 percent over the same period last year.

In April 2008, China's above-scale enterprises produced 26,213 tons of polypropylene fibers, down 2,107 tons or 7.42 percent from March, but a year-on-year increase of 58.7 percent.

During the January-April period this year, country's total output of polypropylene fibers accumulated to 92,668 tons, a growth of over 14.1 percent over the same period last year.

On May 20, PTA spot prices rose, as domestic PTA was quoted at around 8,400 yuan per ton and imported PTA rate stood at 8,350 yuan per ton. Sinopec May PTA contract price went as high as 8,500 yuan per ton (C&F). Imported MEG price was recorded at about 8,900 yuan per ton.
