Handicraft of Yemen is a true reflection of the age-old rich culture and heritage, and the country is renowned for it globally. Although, modernization has peeped into various sectors, handicraft segment still remains untouched from modern use of equipments.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade, has taken initiative to upgrade and uplift this sector. Handicraft segment of Yemen has tremendous possibilities of growth, as the exquisite craft items including metal wear, garments with rich embroidery, silver and beaded jewellery are known far and wide.

Working on the same lines, Yahya al-Mutawakel, Minister of Industry and Trade, inaugurated a workshop on May 26, where officials discussed various possibilities of organizing and establishing a union for handicrafts and small industries.

The authorities believe that, proper organization of production and services needs to be done, that includes increase in output and quality. GTZ, an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with global operations, has shown willingness to give complete support to the Government for this commendable project.

Experts suggest that, with the establishment of union of handicraft and small industry, the economy of the nation will also grow, and it will also provide ample employment opportunity for fellow citizens.
