Yarn & fabric production rises in 2008

According to Bellegprom Concern, a department in the Ministry of Light Industry of the Republic of Belarus, the companies related to light industry invested nearly Br25.2 billion in fixed capital from January to April 2008. It showcases an increase of 4.4 percent when compared to the same period of previous year. Industrial production was also up by almost 5.6 percent.

Sources from the industry informed fibre2fashion, that various items including yarns and fabrics enjoyed a good growth during first four months. Production of yarn rose by 42.8 percent when compared to same period of 2007, for linen yarn the increase was 28.2 percent, for staple fiber yarn 2 percent, for linen fabric 6.7 percent, for wool fabric 2.3 percent and output of silk fabric rose by 11.5 percent.

The production of carpets also witnessed a hike of 4.9 percent, yield of sewing threads went up by 14.3 percent, knitted goods rose by 4.7 percent, clothes showcased an enhancement of 9.7 percent. The output of knit pile fabric grew by 4.5 percent, leather goods boosted by 12 percent and zips production mounted by 20.8 percent.

In the same period, Bellegprom experienced growth in exports too. The country earned nearly US $125.4 million through exports to the CIS countries, a significant boost of 18.8 percent.

Exports to the Russian Federation rose by 19.1 percent to US $115.8 million. Other foreign countries contributed US $34 million to the total foreign earnings made by the nation.
