In Q1, textile export value scored US $2.66 billion, a slight growth of 0.3 percent. Import value increased by 3.8 percent from the same time 2007 to $680 million.
Total textile trade amount of the first quarter marked $3.34 billion, foreign exchange earnings showed $1.98 billion, a reduction of 0.8 percent.
ITIS pointed out that the Industrial Development Bureau of Ministry of Economic Affairs planned the development action program of Taiwan's textile industry last year. It encouraged the industry to participate actively in manufacturing high value-added products, such as bamboo charcoal and eco-friendly textiles.
Therefore, it is estimated that output value of textile industry in the second quarter will have the opportunity to reach 125.2 billion yuan, a growth of 8 percent from the first quarter.
