Known for almost a century as a manufacturer of canvas "Locomotiva", used for the protection of truck-loads, Alpargatas, a company of the group Camargo Corrêa is a national leader in the footwear, sport articles and industrial textiles segments.
A few years ago, the “Locomotiva” canvas entered by chance into the production of bags and casual wear under the concept of “recycled” fabrics. Alpargatas understood they had in their hands a potential market, not just a passing fad, and decided to invest in a canvas with added value, introducing the “Locomotive Stone” with a special stone washed finishing, that preserves durability.
In a second stage the company launched the “Locomotive Eco”, ecologically correct woven with cotton + recycled cotton; cotton + jute; and cotton + PET.
Marketed as “desirable objects” the items receive special washings and finishing guaranteeing a more supple and lighter canvas. Alpargatas made an association with Osklen - well known casual / street / sportswear garment manufacturer - to add value to the products, considering that without designing, a garment would not be able to survive in the markets.
Another more recent partner is Opera Rock, another famous brand, that uses 100% cotton recycled canvas in the production of casual wear. All fabrics of Alpargatas Eco line have an identify tag from the “e fabrics institute” stating that they are produced within all sustain ability criteria.
