A new fibre, sea-island fibre, has been recently developed by the Shanghai Synthetic Fibre Research Institute and already it has attracted huge attention because of its highly sophisticated products in the world.
Having excellent qualities of uniformity, wrinkle resistance, color fastness and resistance to abrasion; this fibre is stronger than the natural leathers and is over 30 times more pervious despite being of the same thickness. It for this reason that the fibre is also called 'super genuine leather' and is comparatively 10 times more expensive than even the top-grade cow skin in the international market.
The Shanghai Synthetic Fibre Research Institute held firmly that developing a variety of new textile fibres was a major break through for the textile and garment industry. For instance, if the 'carbon-fibre consolidation compensation textile' is glued to a concrete surface, its tensile strength would become 10 to 15 times greater than the common rolled steel, its weight however, would be just one fourth of the common rolled steel.
