Nufarm buys cotton plant growth regulators from DuPont
Jun '08
Nufarm Americas Inc. announces that it has acquired DuPont Crop Protection's cotton plant growth regulators, Mepex, Mepex Gin Out, as well as the harvest aids, FirstPick and CottonQuik.

According to Geoff Quick, General Manager – Business Development, Nufarm, the acquisition strengthens Nufarm's position in the cotton market. “The addition of these products to Nufarm's portfolio underscores our commitment to the U.S. cotton grower,” Mr Quick said.

Mepex is a foliar-applied plant regulator that allows growers to manage cotton plants for short-season production, which can help reduce risk of yield and quality loss due to delayed and prolonged harvest.

Mepex Gin Out, an enhanced mepiquat chloride formulation, provides the growth modification of mepiquat chloride, but the optimized formulation enhances the foliar and reproductive efficiency of cotton and is especially suited for early-season applications.

Also included in the acquisition are two enhanced ethephon products – FirstPick and CottonQuik.

FirstPick cotton harvest aid/defoliant provides rapid, consistent boll opening, allowing growers to begin harvesting early and stay on schedule.

CottonQuik provides fast, consistent boll opening over a wide range of temperatures, minimizing regrowth for a clean harvest:

“Growers have depended on the consistent performance of Mepex, Mepex Gin Out, FirstPick, and CottonQuik to help them manage development and harvest of their cotton crops,” said Mr Quick. “We're pleased to continue to offer cotton growers access to these important production tools, along with Nufarm's other crop-protection products for cotton.”

Nufarm Americas Inc. is a subsidiary of Nufarm Limited, a manufacturer, supplier and marketer of crop protection products based in Australia. Nufarm is recognized as one of the leading agricultural and turf chemical manufacturers in the world.

Nufarm Americas Inc formulates products that serve the agricultural, professional turf, vegetation management and forestry markets in the United States.
