Export of rayon yarn drops in May in face of rising prices

Latest Customs data revels that total exports of rayon yarn by China reached over 3685.75 tons in May 2008, a substantial fall of 38.51 percent from the corresponding period last year. This also marks a plunge of 16.4 percent from the previous month.
Export trade registered US $20.1259 million, a year-on-year decline of 12.7 percent, and fall of 10.82 percent from the previous month.
Average rayon yarn price in May stood at around $5460.45 per ton, a sharp rise of 41.98 percent from a year earlier, and recording a hike of 6.7 percent from that in April 2008.
In the first five months of 2008, total exports of rayon yarn touched 17599.18 tons, a year-on-year drop of 25.09 percent.
Total export value of rayon yarn during the January-May amounted to $84.480 million, slight increase of 1.5 percent from the corresponding period of 2007.
Average export price ranged between $4753-4753.3 per ton, up 36.42 percent from the same time last year.
