PSF fabric import intensifies in May

The Department of Customs recently released import and export data of May 2008, where statistics for fabric made from polyester staple fibre were also available.
According to customs, China imported nearly 26.08 million meters of fabric made from PSF in May 2008. This showcases a monthly increase of 1.55 million meters or 6.33 percent, but a decline of 18.16 percent from the same time of 2007.
The average price of May imports was at almost US $1.46 per meter, down 4.08 percent from the previous month, but amplifying 22.20 percent from the same time last year.
In the first five months, total imports of PSF made fabric reached 110.18 million meters, representing a 23.77 percent reduction when compared to same time of 2007. The average price of imports was nearly $1.46 per meter, witnessing a year-on-year rise of 21.99 percent.
Now discussing about exports, in the month of May, China shipped 209.31 million meter of PSF fabrics. It was 7.30 percent less when compared to April, but up 14.26 percent from the same time last year.
The average price of May exports was approximately $0.68 per meter, slight rise of 0.28 percent from the previous month, representing a yearly boost of 14.83 percent.
From January to May, the overall export of PSF fabric touched 1.00377 billion meters, a significant hike of 16.10 percent when compared to same period of 2007. The average export price was around $0.66 per meter, up 13.22 percent from a year earlier.
