Smooth road ahead for hand woven carpet industry

The Iranian hand woven carpets are renowned internationally and always remain in high demand due to their exclusive designs and excellent craftsmanship. The country now wants to make its position all the more prominent in global market, and as a result, Government has joined forces with private sector.
In an exclusive interview with Fibre2fashion, Mr Javad Rezaei, Director of Fair Affairs stated, “The global market share of Iranian hand woven carpet is about US $700 million, that is nearly 40 percent of the total world consumption."
To make these carpets all the more popular, the authorities are planning to hold exhibitions as well as take part in handicraft fairs that will take place in various countries. At present, Iran supplies nearly one third of hand woven rugs globally, followed by India, Pakistan and China.
However, many manufacturers are now opting for machines to increase the production, hand woven rugs still remain first choice among art lovers throughout the planet. The price of machine made carpets is less in comparison to hand made ones, yet it has managed to maintain its popularity.
Mr Javad further asserted, “Carpet has an added value of 100 percent regarding all procedures of supply chain from raw materials to the end product.”
The Ministry of Commerce plans to take measures for the protection of carpet weavers and producers. To serve this purpose, the Carpet House in collaboration with the private sector will pay heed towards export and sale of handmade carpets. This will surely help the industry strengthen economically and develop effortlessly.
