Textile production rises, exports fall in June

In June 2008, yarn output in China was marked at 2 million tons, the highest monthly output in history of the industry, representing a year-on-year increase of 9.7 percent.

During January-June 2008 period, yarn production achieved 10.348 million tons, mounting 11.3 percent from the same time last year.

From September last year to June 2008, China's total yarn output completed 17.448 million tons, a year-on-year surge of 11.3 percent.

Average market price of 32s cotton yarn during the month was around 19,315 yuan per ton, a climb of 363 yuan or 1.9 percent from the previous month. Average price for PSF was at 11,745 per ton, up 770 yuan or 7.0 percent from May.

According to customs statistics, China's textile and apparel exports reached US $15.52 billion in June, growth of 7.6 percent from May, but 4.2 percent less than the same time last year.

From January to June this year, textile and garment exports fetched $81.7 billion, a year-on-year rise of 11.1 percent, but 6.4 percentage points below the growth-rate of same period last year.

Textiles and garments exports from September last year to June this year, accumulated $143.9 billion, a year-on-year climb of 14.1 percent, but 6.7 percentage points lower than the growth-rate of the corresponding period of previous year.

The decline in textile export growth is mainly the impact of continued revaluation of the RMB, subprime credit crisis in the US, rising costs of production and other such related factors.
