In the first half of 2008, Shandong Province earned foreign currency worth nearly US $7.2 billion, by exporting textile and garment products. This marks a considerable rise of 15.4 percent when compared to same time of last year and accounts for 17 percent of the Province's exports.

According to experts, big exporters were the driving force, helping the region earn good revenue from export of textile and clothing from January to June this year. Almost 108 enterprises achieved an export value of more than $10 million, 17 units more than in 2007. Their total exports were around $3.11 billion, accounting for 43.2 percent of the Province's textile and garment export.

Export value of approximately 4150 enterprises was less than $1 million and accounted for 77 percent of exporting companies. The total exports of these enterprises reached $1.02 billion, accounting for 14.2 percent of exports from the sector with a growth of 9.6 percent.

Exports to Africa witnessed a rapid growth and fetched nearly $640 million in the first half of this year, boosting by 41.3 percent. Even export of textile and garment to Oceania surged and earned almost $150 million for Shandong, experiencing a hike of 38.2 percent.

Exports to Japan brought $1.29 billion for the Province, a growth of 9.6 percent. Shipment to European Union fetched $1.73 billion, increasing by 26.3 percent and to US $1.03 billion, a growth of 2.2 percent.
