Gujarat finally received the much awaited down pours of monsoon in the last 48 hours, brightening the prospect of a good harvest this Kharif season.
Farmers, particularly those growing cotton feared a drop in production because of delayed rains, since the period for sowing seeds had already started and rains showed no signs of passing through Gujarat.
In fact, with the fresh spell of showers, demand for power supply in the agriculture sector has also dropped by about 1,000 MW propelling the Government to lift power cuts imposed on industries across the state.
So far, cotton cultivation has been done in 20 lakh hectares and farmers are hopeful of meeting their set targets.
Experts have noted that despite delayed rainfall, farmers across the state have not been impacted severely in terms of damage to crops. But the situation would surely have been beyond control if the rains would have been delayed by one more week.
