At the beginning of October 2008 the Litvínov ethylene unit will be shut down for approximately 21 days. The reason for the shutdown is repair of the turbine that drives the ethylene cooling compressor. The diffusers of this turbine are damaged, which prevents the turbine from running at its full capacity.
Further, for technological reasons on the ethylene unit, the production of the injection types of high density polyethylene (HDPE) has been interrupted for some time.
We estimate the lost volume in production and subsequent sales of these types to reach approx. 10 thousand tonnes. The parts necessary for completing this repair will arrive beginning October, so the shutdown of the ethylene unit will also be used for making this repair.
Until the ethylene unit shutdown, the production of the remaining types of polyethylene will continue without any constraints.
We are addressing the new situation with each of our customers individually, and strive to accumulate sufficient stocks, particularly for October contracted deliveries, to minimise the financial impact.
