The European Textile Technology Platform and the European Technology Platform for Sustainable Chemistry will jointly organise a public workshop on the research and industrial application potential for biotechnologies in the textile sector.
The workshop will take place on 20th November 2008 in Brussels.
The event should bring together industry and researchers from both communities to: - showcase biotechnology potential for the textile industry, encouraging use of new biotech processes for “greening” of textile products and processes
- create awareness in the biotech industry of potential applications in the textile sector and identify needs for cooperation
- identify technological barriers, research priorities and explore opportunities for joint research projects under the EC's 7th Framework Programme (FP7).
Three thematic panels will focus on the following main topics: a) Enzymatic catalysis & bio-functionalisation of textiles b) Bio-polymers for new fibres and auxiliaries c) Bio-based materials as side-products of bio-refineries and their use.
Prior to the workshop experts from both Technology Platforms will jointly prepare a draft position paper on textile biotech research priorities to be approved by the workshop and subsequently presented to the EC as input for FP7 research priority setting.
