In the midst of terrorism and growing suspicion among nations, weaving a carpet to symbolize 'world peace' can be considered as a humble initiative.
Iranian craftsmen have plans to weave a World Peace Carpet whose design is an inspiration from the Cyrus Cylinder. The Cyrus cylinder bears a declaration issued by the Persian king Cyrus II in the cuneiform script and is considered to be the world's first charter of human rights.
Unearthed in 1879, in Esagila, the cylinder has inscription that is indicative of the broad-mindedness of the primitive king. It was only in 1971, that the charter was translated in all six UN official languages with a replica of the Cylinder kept at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
