Jiangsu thrives on textile & garment sector

Jiangsu textile and garment industry comprises mainly of textiles and clothing, shoes, hats manufacturing. According to Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Statistics, in the period from January to May, of the ongoing year, textile and garment sector achieved revenue of 183.85 billion yuan from the sales of textiles; 69.67 billion yuan from clothing.
These two segments rank fifth and eleventh in 39 major categories of industrial sectors in the Jiangsu Province, accounting for 10.2 percent of the industrial sales income of large scale enterprises.
One point is worth noting that by the end of May, the region had housed around 9608 large scale enterprises in textile and garment industry, accounting for 21.5 percent of the total number of the similar kind of industrial enterprises; of which, textile enterprises were 6938, garment enterprises were 2670.
Jiangsu textile and garment industry is employing around 1.877 million people. Of which, textiles industry has provided jobs to 1.184 million local people and near about 694,000 are working in apparel enterprises.
These data proves the fact that textile and garment sector of Jiangsu has the obvious characteristics of labor-intensive industries.
The enterprises that operate in the region are basically either privately funded or state-owned ones and most of these are small and medium-sized businesses.
The available statistics till May shows that the Province had 9,608 textile and garment enterprises, among them, 7217 were private enterprises, accounted for 75.1 percent.
In the period of five months, privately owned textile and garment enterprises realized sales revenue of 179.83 billion yuan, accounting for 70.9 percent of all sales income of textile and apparel business.
Small textile and garment enterprises realized sales income of 143.42 billion yuan, registering sales of 56.6 percent of total income of textile and apparel business in the region.
