Textile & apparel sector records high output value in H1

In the first half of 2008, output value of large scale textile and apparel enterprises in Jiangsu Province reached nearly 323.03 billion yuan, up by 11.7 percent from the same time last year.

It is 14.1 percent lower than the provincial average level in production value increase. However, 11.2 percentage points below the output value growth when compared to first six months of 2007.

Of which, textile enterprises production value touched 235.36 billion yuan, showcasing an yearly rise of 11.8 percent, however, down 9.4 percentage points from the growth rate of the same period last year.

Garment factories contribution in the total value was around 87.68 billion yuan, witnessing a year-on-year growth of 11.3 percent. But observing a decline of 16.4 percentage points from the increase it had enjoyed same period in 2007.

From January to June this year, textile industries in Jiangsu produced 1.903 million tons of yarn and 5.48 billion meters of cloth, representing an annual growth of 0.7 percent and 4.4 percent, respectively. However, there is a yearly decrease of 21.4 percentage points for yarn and 8.9 percentage points for apparel, when compared to same time of previous year.

Clothing enterprises in the region produced 1.72 billion pieces of garments. This showcases a year-on-year increase of 4.4 percent, but down 18.4 percentage points from the growth rate of first six months of 2007.
