Bilal Mulla, Central Chairman, Pakistan Readymade Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) in a statement has said that China announced 13 percent rebate on value added textile and other different products from 1st August 2008 whereas Pakistani Textile Exporters have been denied even a level playing field, while its competitors China and India give rebates and subsidy on textile exports.

He said that on the contrary, the Pakistani government had increased the rates of utilities and petroleum products during the last 3 months, pushing the cost of production instead of facilitating the textile sector to hold its share in the international markets.

He further said that neither any concession nor any rebate had been given by the government to counter the additional burden the exporters had been bearing owing to recent increase in the rates of gas, electricity and petroleum products.

Bilal Mulla aid that India is also supporting its textile export through technology up-gradation fund scheme (TUFS) as well as reimbursing the mark-up charged from exporters. The supportive measures were in addition to low priced inputs and utilities available to our neighbor country. He demanded some remedial steps in this regard to meet the tough competition in the region.
