The textile and apparel industry of Colombia has been hit by rising peso and tough competition from the Asian countries. However, in first half of 2008, the high exports earning through shipment of innerwear, has once again revived the oscillating hope of entrepreneurs.

The nation has exported intimate wear worth approximately US $211 million in first six months of this year, showcasing a significant hike of 13 percent when compared to same period of 2007.

Colombia mainly exports its range of innerwear to the potential markets of Venezuela, United States and Mexico with nearly 60, 18 and 6 percent of share from the total output, respectively. The underwear industry of the nation accounts for only 12 percent of the total garment exports.

One of the most interesting things about the intimate wear sector of Colombia is that most of the enterprises purchase their raw material including cotton and nylon fabric, laces, belts and pins from various nations like France, Spain and Italy.

The expertise of the domestic sector lies in beautifully assembling all the items together, to create stylish and stunning range of innerwear.
