Oregon 150 teams with Pendleton Woolen Mills to weave history

Pendleton will celebrate 100 Years of Weaving America's Spirit in 2009. The new Oregon 150 blankets as well as all Pendleton products are available at select department, specialty stores, and more than 70 Pendleton retail stores nationwide.
On March 13, 2007, Gov. Ted Kulongoski launched preparations for the 150th anniversary of Oregon's admittance into the Union. The celebration will begin Feb. 14, 2009, and last through the fall of 2009. "The sesquicentennial will be a unique opportunity to honor our past and all of the people who created the quilt of natural beauty, urban and rural communities, diverse economy, and original thinking that we call Oregon," the governor said. To prepare for Oregon's 150th birthday, the governor created Oregon 150, a nonprofit organization led by motivated citizen volunteers from across the states who serve as its Board of Directors. The mission of Oregon 150 is to inspire people across the state to remember, experience and celebrate Oregon and, together, create a robust and sustainable future. The sesquicentennial will involve Oregonians from all walks of life -- all ages, income levels, and ethnic backgrounds, new and longtime residents, rural and urban.
Oregon 150 Blanket Hang Tag: Oregon 1859 – 2009: It is a snow-covered challenge, a majestic muse and a reminder that we're home. Called Wy'east by the Multnomah Tribe, Mount Hood represents our past, present and future. It has watched over our maverick innovations for 150 years, and it will watch over them for 150 more. In this bold design, 15 trilliums and ferns border our iconic mountain, each representing a decade of Oregon's statehood. Each leaf and petal contains our stories, accomplishments and wisdom. 150 years in the beginning. The rest is up to us.
Muchacho Blanket Hang Tag: The Western Meadowlark embodies Oregon. Bold and free-spirited, it sings with a distinctive voice. For 150 years, this bird has shared residency with us, signaling the delicately shifting seasons. The meadowlark was selected by Oregon's schoolchildren as our state bird. This muchacho blanket comforts those who will determine our next 150 years.
