Shri Uttam Kumar Basu is the MD of MRPL

Shri Uttam Kumar Basu, appointed by the President of India as the new Managing Director of MRPL, has taken over from Shri R Rajamani who superannuated on 31st August 2008. Just previous to this assignment Shri Basu was serving as Exec Director, Gujarat Refinery Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.
Shri Uttam Kumar Basu, a chemical engineer from the reputed Jadavpur University, WB, carries with him over 3 decades of professional experience in Refinery Operations & Management in India's foremost Fortune Global 200 Oil company – Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.
Shri U K Basu made his mark in IndianOil & in the Indian Oil Refining Sector through his contribution during “construction to commissioning” of Mathura Refinery's Capacity Augmentation Project, and that of Panipat Refinery. He also served in various capacities in IndianOil's Refinery Headquarters and in the refineries at Mathura, Haldia, Barauni, Panipat and Gujarat– ranging from the company's largest to the most modern.
In view of his impeccable track record, Shri U K Basu was the natural choice for IndianOil's management to steer Gujarat Refinery. In June 2006, Shri U K Basu took over as Executive Director of Gujarat Refinery and has since then, led Gujarat Refinery to unprecedented heights in performance and turnover.
Equipped with leading-edge technological know-how in Refinery Operations and Technical Services, Project execution and Management Skills honed over time capped with a stint heading Supply Chain Management and Optimisation across verticals in IndianOil Corporate Office, Shri Basu is now all set lead Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd, an ONGC Group Company, the best performing refinery in the South of India.
His cross functional exposure and wealth of experience gives him a unique and multifold advantage of knowing how to extract value from across the hydrocarbon value chain in the downstream which is invaluable in these difficult market conditions.
Shri U K Basu is widely travelled having visited USA, Europe, Bahrain, Japan, Turkey & Singapore in his official capacity.
