Hilal Yasal Sertdemir is a famous embroiderer who is presently holding an exhibition of his exclusive work at the art gallery ArkeoPera in Yeni Çarsi, Galatasaray. The expo is named Hoop Embroidery From Talented Hands, and will continue to draw art lovers at the venue till September 30.
The techniques that are used by Hilal Yasal, were even employed by the craftsmen of 18th century, thus the visitors are effortlessly transported to the rich and glorious past of Turkey. Samples of Tel Kirma and Tel Kakma embroidery are gathering rave reviews for the onlookers for their sheer excellence.
Tel Kirma was first done in Bartin and then it developed and spread nation wide. It was mainly used on bed sheets, pillowcases and other types of coverings, using colourful threads.
The association of Turkish artisans with embroidery is very old, however, with changing times many changes in techniques and patterns is done to maintain its popularity among today's generation.
