SunShield (made of TiO2 particles) to be showcased at Expofil

RadiciGroup will be present at the autumn session of Expofil 2008, the yarn and fibre exhibition taking place in Paris from 23 to 26 September.
At Expofil RadiciGroup is showcasing SunShield, a skin-core structured yarn with incorporated UV protection specifically designed for sportswear and its roster of spandex fibres produced by its US company RadiciSpandex.
Spandex is used in apparel (swimwear, intimatewear, hosiery, denim, sportswear), nonwovens, industrial, medical and sanitary-hygiene applications.
At the autumn session of Expofil 2008, RadiciGroup is showcasing SunShield, a skin-core structured yarn with incorporated UV protection specifically designed for sportswear.
The skin layer of this yarn with incorporated UV protection consists of bright polyester, while the core is made up of super opaque polymer containing nanometric TiO2 particles with extra master titanium dioxide (a bactericide) additive.
It is important to stress the role of the titanium core, which is the component that shields against UV rays, providing superior protection against solar radiation.
Furthermore, the titanium core also solves the see-through problem, even in wet fabrics, thereby eliminating one of the main drawbacks of traditional polyester.
SunShield's main applications are in sportswear, in particular sports apparel that requires a cooling effect.
At Expofil 2008 RadiciGroup is also presenting its roster of spandex fibres produced by its US company RadiciSpandex.

Highlights of the RadiciSpandex range include:
S17B – This versatile high-performance spandex boasts multiple features that benefit a number of end-use markets. Resistance to chlorine, UV rays and suntan oils makes S17B an excellent component in fabrics for swimwear.
An inherent brightening feature, meanwhile, produces a pristine shade of white, which is a top-selling colour in the bra market. The fibre makes fabrics print more vibrantly and is well suited for activewear.
SRB – One of RadiciSpandex's newest innovations is a premium black spandex that produces a consistent shade of black, eliminating spandex grin-through when fabrics are stretched.
This fibre, which also serves as a design element in fabric, is particularly attractive to the ready-to-wear, intimate apparel, swimwear, and activewear markets, among others.
S85 – RadiciSpandex's versatile clear spandex has enjoyed long-time use in markets as diverse as legwear, ready-to-wear, circular knits, warp knits, medical applications, nonwovens and coverings. S85 offers excellent dyeability, tensile strength and shape retention.
