Modular designs enable the same basic machine to be easily and quickly adapted between different needs and styling. Modules may include pre fusing engineered placement systems and different types of stackers for post fusing.

Flexibility in conventional sewing machine use is seen widening their use into the decoration field with sequential and programmable sequin sewn designs, different effects achieved by multi-needle, multi-colour and multi-stitch type machines, and much else.

Special constructions for technical applications
The choice of machines for heavy and difficult to sew technical textiles, exhibitors of IMB 2009 are going to present, is increasing with extra distances between foot and bed, special shaped cylinder machines, long post beds, able to sew light to very heavy weight materials for car seats to safety belts, airplane interiors to special filters.

Since several years the embroidery machines are moving into the technical textile markets as basically almost anything can be done using an embroidery machine which involves textiles in their widest sense and needs the precise placement of wires, fibres, threads, etc. for reinforcement or specific placement. It is the flexibility of the thread that is the limiting factor. Embroidery machines provide total flexibility of shape and all can be pre-programmed and all are totally reproducible.
