Technical textiles are billed as the next biggest opportunity emerging in India. Current market size of the industry in India is in the range of US $5-6 billion and is projected to grow at an annual growth rate of 13 percent to reach $35 billion by 2035. The government of India believes so and has instituted various measures such as National Mission on Technical Textiles to establish India's presence in this sector.

There is a correlation between prosperity and consumption of technical textiles as witnessed in the US and Europe. US with a GDP of $40,000 had a per capita consumption of 3.0-3.5 kg of technical textiles, while India with a GDP of $850 had a pro- rata consumption of just 150 gms.

But considering the fact that GDP in India is expected to grow to $30,000 by 2035, consumption of technical textiles is also anticipated to touch 3.0-3.5 kg per capita. Is it any wonder that the US and Europe should look at India as emerging markets to enter as they reckon that China and India will dominate this sector with a whopping 45 percent of the global business within the next 10 years.

Keeping the above in mind, National Institute of Fashion Technology, a premier fashion technology institute is organizing an International Conference on “Technical Textiles in Apparel Sector” in Bangalore, India on 21-22 November 2008.

Key speakers invited to the conference are from renowned companies like Arvind Mills Ltd. TATA Advanced Materials, Alok Industries Ltd., Reliance Industries Ltd., Resil Chemicals, Creative Portico and Coats India among a few.

The objective of the Conference is to provide a common platform, where experts from traditional Textile & Apparel industries, leading players in the current technical textiles industry, raw material manufactures, research organizations, designers, and academia can come together and discuss the current status of both domestic and global Technical Textiles and its application in Apparel industry.

The conference is being held concurrently with India ITME, the Indian Textile Machinery Exhibition which is going to be held in Bangalore from 15-22 November 2008 and will thus give delegates opportunity to attend both the events.
