He said that around 300 MW in co-generation (sugar industry), around 150 MW in furnace oil captive power generation, around 50 MW in LSHS oil gensets and around 3500 MW HSD oil generator capacities are available with the various industrial units across the State.

SIMA has pointed out that even 50% of these idle capacities are put into operation, the State can easily overcome the existing power crisis problem and ensure sustained competitiveness for the industrial units and also supply uninterrupted power to all consumers.

SIMA Chief has clarified that the industry has been only demanding uninterrupted power and not any subsidy from the Government. Since the fuel cost is exorbitantly high, Government's helping hand is very much essential to save over Rs.50,000 crores investments made during the last five years by various industries in which the textile industry's contribution alone is Rs.35,000 crores.

He has stated that the one-day stoppage of production would result in Rs.50 crores production loss to the spinning sector having over 2000 units and Rs.230 crores production loss to the entire textile industry in the State. He has added that the stoppage would also result in Rs.7.5 crores revenue loss for TNEB, Rs.1.5 crores revenue loss to Tamil Nadu Government and over Rs.1 crores loss to the Central Government.

He has strongly hoped that considering the shortage of power that is going to prevail for next 3 to 4 years in Tamil Nadu, the Hon'ble Chief Minister would soon implement the Diesel Model, ensure supply of uninterrupted power to protect the direct employment of over 30 lakh people and save the single largest industry in the State.
