Textile bio-innovations unaffected by global meltdown - Novozymes

Novozymes offers industrial bio-innovations solutions for a broader array of industries including Textiles. From pre-treatment to the finishing touch, bio-solutions are inevitable needs of present eco-concerned textile industry.
The company has provided a number of innovative breakthroughs in the textile industry, setting up standards as far as biotech solutions are concerned. The range of bio-solutions for this particular sector includes bio-polishing, bio-preparation, bleach clean up, denim abrasion, desizing and denim finishing.
The current global upheaval is a matter of concern for all the industries across the world. In order to get a closer outlook of the present scenario, and future prospects of biotechnology in the arena of textile industry, Fibre2fashion seized the opportunity to interact with Mr Suresh Chandran, Marketing Director, Textiles, of Novozymes, that has established itself as a paradigm in biotechnology solution for more than 30 industries.
Mr Suresh Chandran told, "The textile industry is currently going through a global downturn. The problem is multifaceted but some of the factors that aggravated the situation include decreased demand due to economic decline in developed markets, stricter environmental procedures and currency appreciation in China where many thousands of factories have closed, and shrinking export market in India.
"We foresee this declining trend for next 2-3 years and during this time the textile production will shift to low cost areas such as Vietnam, Honduras, Indonesia and Bangladesh. This presents both a challenge and a unique opportunity to Novozymes. We are the world-leader in industrial enzymes and have always focused on developing environmentally friendly solutions for the textile industry. Solutions which are both quality-enhancing and also provide production efficiencies. And we have been doing this for the past 40 years.
"The textile industry is unfortunately one of the more significant contributors towards pollution. With spotlight on sustainability, our customers are looking towards drastically reducing water consumption and effluent, decreasing energy consumption and increasing throughput, but in a sustainable way. This is truly the way forward for the textile industry.”
Discussing Company's progress, Marketing Director, for Textiles stated, “At Novozymes, we have the right products and solutions to meet these customer demands. Our Bioscouring solutions dramatically reduce water consumption and decrease GHG (Green House Gas) emissions and we have this documented in the form of Life Cycle Analyses (LCA Studies).
"Similarly, we have developed innovative products which combine different processes, yielding increased production throughput, reducing processing times and water/energy use. We have a dedicated textiles R&D/Customer Solutions team which is continuouslylooking at helping our customers in these difficult times.
"Hence the short to medium term future for textile industry is indeed challenging but there are plenty of opportunities for Novozymes to grow in this sector with our textile Bio-innovations," he concludes.
