Dornier delivers 50,000th rapier weaving machine

It has established the international breakthrough of Lindauer DORNIER GmbH as a weaving machinery manufacturer: the DORNIER rapier weaving machine. Delivered for the first time in 1967, the 50.000th machine left our Lindau factory in April 2008.
As part of a follow-up order from an internationally operating technical weaver and market leader, the machine will be employed in the production of woven reinforcement fabrics.
As early as 1968 – when an initial market success with these types of woven reinforcement fabrics was perceivable– DORNIER delivered to customers the first rapier weaving machines for this purpose, documenting the fact that today our company can look back on a very successful 40-year business relationship with this high-tech industry.
In the case of woven reinforcement fabrics, the particular success of our machine concept has been due to its capability of processing the brittle, fine individual count continuous filament yarns commonly used for these articles in an extremely gentle way.
The low weft pick-up speed of the rigid rapier avoids damaging tension peaks. In order to prevent brittle yarn filament breaks on filling pick-up and/or transfer, soft clamps in conjunction with the positively controlled, precise center transfer ensure safe weft insertion through the shed.
In the warp area, the DORNIER rapier machine's rigid rapier rods show to advantage in that they need no shed guide components, thus the fine individual filament carbon, aramid or glass yarns cannot be damaged. As these types of warp yarn have little or no elasticity, intelligent warp control precisely follows every shed opening movement.
In this way the minimum warp tension necessary for the weaving process is kept constant at the digitally pre-set, controlled and recordable value during the entire warp beam let-off.
Close cooperation with our customers, which again takes constant account of their requirements and latest developments, has made possible over the years continuous further development of the machine in the direction of higher quality, flexibility and performance.
One of the most important and beneficial being the so-called “DORNIER DuoColor” waste saving device reducing the selvedge waste in case of the very expensive weft yarns used in technical applications by up to 70%.
Thanks to its outstanding reproducibility of settings, the DORNIER rapier weaving machine is not only suitable for the production of all types of woven reinforcing fabrics but has now, over 40 years, established itself as the ideal tool also in many other technical woven fabric fields.
Constantly improved and complemented by component groups and functions, it meets the widest variety of practical requirements, helping our customers to put future high-tech textiles successfully into practice already today.
