It was noted that National Energy Conservation Centre (ENERCON), attached department of the Ministry of Environment, Government of Pakistan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA) recently.
ENERCON MD, Mr Faridullah Khan, confirmed the news to Fibre2fashion and said that the step was taken to promote energy conservation in SME sector.
Mr Khan and Mr Shahid Rashid, CEO of SMEDA, did the honour of signing this MoU.
This Memorandum of Understanding between SMEDA and ENERCON is being undertaken as industry is lacking in best energy management practices and a lot of energy is wasted across various production processes resulting in higher energy bills and productivity losses.
Keeping in view the results achieved during pilot interventions and a huge gap present in the industry, SMEDA and ENERCON have reached to a mutual understanding to join hands.
SMEDA will primarily focus on carrying out the detailed energy audits of SMEs while ENERCON will supervise, monitor, evaluate and disseminate findings emanating from these audits.
Respective detailed roles and responsibilities of both ENERCON and SMEDA will be defined on case to case basis in accordance with a mutually agreed annual work plan to be finalized within one month from the signing of this MoU.
