NITRA has been continuously engaged in R&D activities for Indian textiles industry since its inception in 1975. During this long journey it has come out with many breakthrough technologies and innovations that enriched the industry in meeting competitive challenges. It is a matter of great satisfaction that very recently The Patent Office, Govt. of India has awarded two more patents to NITRA.

One for the innovation of a process to prepare yarn/fabric with UV resistant properties, whilst the other one is for innovating a device to dye indigo yarn in small & medium scale processing units. The abstracts of the patented technologies are given below. These patents are awarded for the R&D work of Dr. M.S.Parmer, Head of Research & Product Development & his team.

Both these patented technologies are due for commercial exploitation. Expression of interest is sought from suitable partners, preferably a machine manufacturer for the second patent.

A process for the preparation of yarn/fabric (textile material) having ultraviolet radiation/protection and flame resistant properties: Patent no. 222432
This invention relates to a process for the preparation of yarn/fabric (textile material) having ultraviolet radiation/protection and flame resistant properties. According to the process the yarn/fabric is prepared from natural colored cotton or blends of natural colored cotton with other natural and synthetic fibres.

The yarn/fabric so prepared is treated with 0.1 – 30% by weight of an alkalis salts at a temperature of 40 – 1000C. The treated yarn/fabric is subjected to the steps of washing followed by drying in vacuum oven so as to obtain said yarn/fabric (textile material).

A compact indigo dyeing device for dyeing a thread flock: Patent no. 216779
The invention relates to an indigo dying machine for dying the thread used for preparing denim cloth. According to this invention there is provided an indigo dying machine for dying the thread comprising a pair of baths mounted on the main frame for supporting the beam of yarn, a guide roller and a leasing for yarn being provided on either sides of the main frame of the machine for guiding the movement of the yarn during thread dyeing process.

A set of squeeze rolls being provided over said dye baths for squeezing the thread after each step of dyeing and/or washing. Another support being provided on the other side of said main frame for supporting the beam dyed yarn. Control means being provided on the front side of the main frame for controlling the speed and the temperature respectively.

Means being provided to change the movement of the air blowers provided on either sides of the main frame for providing air for oxidation and/or drying purposes of the dyed thread. This machine is cost effective and requires less space. Decentralized sector can use this machine for producing denim.
