Trade Commission to monitor T&G imports from China

According to relevant provisions of China's accession to the World Trade Organization, restrictive quantity and permit management measures of China's textile exports will expire at the end of 2008.

The bilateral textile memorandum of understanding between China and the United States as well as China and the EU will also expire at the same time and China's textile exports will enter a stage of free trade with these regions.

Most of the Chinese enterprises feel that their exports will be free of obstacles without any quotas in the future, but this assumption has been made on blind optimism. They have ignored the fact that the United States as well as the countries of the EU will not yield smoothly.

The U.S. International Trade Commission recently decided to publish a statistics report on Chinese textile and clothing imports every two weeks starting from December 1, 2008, so as to monitor the quantity of imported Chinese products.

This is mainly to prevent sharp increase of textile and clothing imports from China after the abolition of quota, which may have a devastating impact on domestic manufacturers and the market.
