Eton Systems Inc announces that FoamLabs Inc, the vertically-integrated manufacturer and marketer of specialty foam furniture products, has expanded use of the advanced Eton production system in its Atlanta, Georgia (USA) headquarters.

In what is the company's third installation in one year, Foamlabs has expanded the size of its Eton conveyorized production line and extended the use the Eton shop floor control and operator feedback system to offline pre-assembly operations.

“FoamLabs thrives on its ability to innovate. We can conceive a new product on Monday and deliver it on Friday”, stated CEO Louis Friedman. “Eton takes what has traditionally been a primitive activity and turns it into an advanced manufacturing process. With order sizes ranging from one unit to one thousand, we know that we must deliver work on a conveyor to efficiently manufacture in the United States. Without Eton, we would not be able to effectively process small orders.”

“Before Eton, we produced in batches and moved parts around in tubs. Operators did not know how they were performing against targets. Eton not only feeds work to operators but also provides them with a constant productivity incentive. They now have total transparency on what they are achieving on a minute-by-minute basis.”

This operator feedback was a primary driver for extending the use of the Eton shop floor control system to offline operations. The system now offers incentives to the entire factory through one system, creating parity on the floor between online and offline activities. In addition to operator feedback, the system also provides tangible benefits to management.

“The real-time data collection also provides the transparency to enable us to better know and control costs, track quality and defects, and better manage the production line”, added Friedman. “Eton creates a more positive workplace where things are in constant motion rather than laying around. It has enabled us to reach a higher level of productivity.”

Established in 2001, FoamLabs, Inc. manufactures a complete line of lifestyle pillows and foam furniture. The company employs approximately 150 people in its single 140,000 square foot facility. The Eton system is used to produce furniture covers and liners, automating the flow of goods and optimizing individual operator handling from the cutting table through to final assembly and packaging. FoamLabs plans to continue building out the operation with up to 150 Eton workstations as business growth permits.
