Seminar conducted on 'Advances in Textile Processing'

The Textile Association (India), Mumbai Unit organized a Half Day Seminar on “Advances in Textile Processing” at Tarapur on 6th November 2008. The Chief Guest was Mr. Prabodh Patel, Textile Consultant and the Guest of Honours were Mr. Nagesh M. Mugadur, Joint Textile Commissioner, Office of the Textile Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India and Mr. Rajpal Karwar, CEO of Rolson Industries (India) Ltd.

Mr. V. C Gupte, Chairman, TAI, Mumbai Unit welcomed the Guests and the delegates. He gave brief details of the activities of The Textile Association (India), Mumbai Unit. He explained the importance of the use of Computer colour matching in making and prediction of shades.

Mr. Arun K. Narkar, Jt. Hon. Secretary, TAI, Mumbai Unit and Convener of the seminar gave the brief of the event. He spoke about the Government's concept of the cluster development particularly in Textile and Handloom sectors which is gaining importance. He discussed about the acute power shortage which hampers the production. Mr. Narkar said that he has selected the papers which were helpful for the cluster development.

Mr. Uday Kulkarni, Jt. Convener and G.M. (Processing) of Mandhana Dyeing, Tarapur gave introduction of Chief Guest, Mr. Prabodh Patel.

Mr. Prabodh Patel in his inaugural address said that the cost reduction through laboratory optimization of pretreatment and dyeing could help in high profit realization. He emphasized about quality control laboratory as it can act as diagnostic tool for optimization of the processes and minimize defects and damages in their end products.

Shade matching using modern tools like computer colour matching which began 30 years ago can help the dyeing units to sustain the desired shades in different batches of production.
Mr. Prabodh Patel released the Book of Papers.

Mr. Nagesh M. Mugadur while addressing the delegates informed that there is a lot of potential in upgrading their processing sectors as it leads to very high value addition. He also pointed out that there is capital subsidy apart from interest subsidy extended under technology upgradation from different schemes. He complimented The Textile Association (India), Mumbai Unit and local industries for taking the initiatives for this seminar.

Mr. Kevwal U. Jain, Director of M/s Rolson Industries was not able to attend the seminar due to last minute engagement. In his absence Mr. Rajpal Karwar gave the details about their company and informed that it is 100% Export Oriented Unit for P/V shirting & dress material with annual turnover of 100 Cr.

Following five papers presented during seminar.

1.Mr. Pradeep Rane, General Manager, Sales & Mktg. (India), CHT (India) Pvt. Ltd. presented paper on 'Pretreatment & Value Added Finishes on Textiles'.
2.Dr. Ashok Athalye, GM–Technical Services, Atul Ltd. made the presentation on 'Continuous Dyeing of Cotton & its Polyester Blends'.
3.Mr.S. Parameswaran, Vice President (Business Development), Colourtex Ltd. highlighted on 'Practical Aspects of Wool Fibre & Wool Blends Processing'.
