8th Handicrafts Fair at Siliguri inaugurated

The 8th handicrafts fair started in Siliguri, West Bengal from December 12 and which will end on December 28, was inaugurated by the Urban Development Minister Mr Asok Bhattacharya.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Manab Mukherjee, Small Scale Industry Minister said that the government would take all measures to help the local artisans reach their zenith and emphasised the need to hold such a fair.

He added by saying that resources was not a problem and all must come together to bring about a qualitative change in the handicrafts produced by the artisans.

The Minister of State for from the same ministry, Mr Narayan Biswas said that past glory of the handicrafts industry should be revived and that the government will go the full way in encouraging exports from the sector.

Mr Bhattacharya said that this fair would help the artisans get a better understanding of the rich heritage of the sector by seeing the products made by others at the fair and also prove to be an inspiration.
