SDC organizes technical lectures & presents citation at Tirupur meet

The first meeting of the Society of Dyers and Colourists was organised at Tirupur, the hub of garment exports from India on December 20, 2008. The highlights of the meeting were presenting of silver medal and Citation of SDC- UK to Ms Kandasamy & two technical lectures organised for the benefit of the gathering.

The chief guest of the function was Mr Pradeep Gupta, IPS and Member Secretary Textile Committee, Mumbai and the guest of honour, Ms Kandasamy. It was also graced with the special presence of the COO of the India chapter of SDC, Dr Pariti Siva Ramakumar. The special guests included Mr Samiappan, President Dyers Association of Tirupur, Mr Swaminathan, President South India Hosiery Manufacturers Association, Tirupur and Dr Sanjiv Kamat, S.D.C India Vice President.

The two technical lectures were delivered by Dr.Srinivasan General Manager, Texan Laboratories Pvt. Ltd, Salem on “Insights into Eco Testing of Textiles” and other lecture was delivered on “Relevance of Chemical Testing in Textile Processing”, by Mr.Selvaraj Assistant Director, Textile Committee (Laboratory), Tirupur.

Dr.Shrinvasan started with his technical lecture and took the audience all the way, in an interesting and participative manner. He explained about the banned amines, formaldehyde, heavy metals, Organic compounds, phthalates, etc. He went on to explain the various labels for Eco parameters. He gave a detailed input of the various factors involved in testing and the alternatives available.

The lecture was well received by the buying agents, exporters and guests gathered. The topic chosen aptly fitted into the hindering blocks prevailing in export from the industry and really proved to be an eye opener for the business community.

The second lecture was from Mr.Selvaraj. He chose the topic of color fastness in relation to different parameters like washing, laundering, rubbing, light, perspiration. He went on to explain the theory behind fastness principle, factors influencing the fastness properties, frequent problems encountered in process house, remedies etc. The technical inputs were well appreciated by the assembled process house personnel, dyers and chemical sales businessmen.

Award ceremony:
In the opening speech Mr AC Kalidas presented a profile of late Mr N Kandasamy and his association with the dyeing industry. He mentioned that the award presented by SDC UK was well suitable for the noble man, who had dedicated his career for the entire dyeing industry and environmental issues. Dr. Sanjiv Kamat explained the various activities of the SDC India Region and gave a brief note of SDC UK and its mission.

Mr Samiappan in his address informed about his association with SDC for a long period. He thanked SDC UK for conferring the medal on a person from the business of dyes and chemicals and also added by saying that he felt proud to be associated with SDC. He was full of praise for the late Mr Kandasamy and shared his experience in working with him.
