All eight jute mills located in the Morang-Sunsari industrial corridor the special economic zone (SEZ), remained suspended on the back of wage dispute among mill workers and owners.

Even regular operation was disrupted due to the protest from labourers who are asking for fixed minimum wage from the Government.

Observing the woes of the workers the Government had set the minimum daily wage at Rs190. However, the mill owners declined to follow the increased rate.

According to the mill owners, they are not in a position to pay this amount as market condition invery poor. Even they are asking for discounts on electricity with out which it will be difficult for them to compete with the Indian manufacturers.
