The trends witnessed in prices of global prices of ethylene, in which prices in some markets rose while in a few markets it feel, was also reflected in the prices of another petrochemical; propylene.
Propylene prices for FOB South Korea in Far East region fell to US $665-667 per ton on Wednesday from the last week's levels of $715-717 per ton, which is a repeat of the trends seen in prices of ethylene. Experts attribute the same to a slowdown in demand from China.
Propylene prices on the other hand stayed flat in the European markets on Wednesday compared to last week. Propylene (polymerization level), FD Northwest Europe and CIF Northwest Europe were quoted at levels as those traded in last week at Euro 411-421 and Euro 401-411 per metric ton respectively.
Though off course, the propylene markets in Houston, US, rebounded on the same lines as that of ethylene in growing from US cent 24.13-24.25 per lb on Feb 12 to US cent 25.00-25.50 per lb, yesterday.
